Work with the council leaderships, coordinate activities, provide feedback – Gov Dickson tells Special Reps

The Bayelsa State Governor’s Special Representatives in the 8 local government areas have been inaugurated with a mandate to work closely with the leadership of the councils, towards coordinating the activities at that level and provide feedback to the office of the Governor on a regular basis.

Governor Dickson, who gave the charge on Tuesday at the inauguration ceremony in Government House, Yenagoa, described their assignment as crucial and dimensional, as they were expected to give accurate reports on the security situation in the various local government areas and carry out government’s directives.

He stressed that, the special representatives also have the responsibility of adopting the right strategies and network with stakeholders at the third tier of the government, towards bringing about political stability, for the Peoples Democratic Party and the government at that level.

Governor Dickson noted that, for the Special Representatives to carry out their duties effectively, they were expected to operate from the headquarters of the respective local government areas and desist from advancing the political interest of cliques, as the elections were over in the state.

According to him, the government will hold a joint meeting, involving the local government chairmen, special representatives and caucus leaders of the party, with a view to ensuring that, they work together to achieving set goals.

His words: “Don’t let anybody create any impression that, this appointments have been made to advance any particular clique’s interest. I expect you to go back to your local government areas; work with the leadership of your local government areas, consult with those that need to be consulted, expand the base of your team and I don’t want politics of cliques, elections are over in this state.

 “I will hold a joint meeting with you, the chairmen of councils and the caucus leaders of the party and of the state government to make sure that you all work together in your local government areas.”

The newly appointed Governor’s Special Representatives are, Frank Bekebo for Southern Ijaw, Eselema Gbaranbiri- kolokuma/Opokuma, Patterson Ikpi- Yenagoa, Mr. Luke Godday- Sagbama local government.

Others are, Barr. Japan Odoji for Ekeremor, chief Osain Olalibo-Ibokolo- Ogbia, Chief Kenhabo Monday-Degi- Nembe and Mr. Esau Andrew- Brass local government.   

Responding on behalf the Special Representatives, Mr. Eselema Gbaranbiri expressed appreciation to Governor Dickson for the appointment and assured that, they would work hard to deliver on the mandate assigned to them.
