....Says Action Negates Every Known Democratic Practices
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governors’ forum has condemned in strong terms, the violation of the sanctity of the Akwa Ibom State Government House, that was invaded by operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS.

In a communiqué read by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko at the end of its meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa, the PDP Governors’ Forum said, the exertion of such draconian force by the federal government, using the DSS, on a state with a sitting democratically elected governor is a breach of democratic norms and intended to stifle the opposition and a violation of the rule of law.

He stressed that, the action was against the spirit, ethos, values, and fundamental tenets of democratic norms and traditions, noting that, the forum is worried and alarmed at the level of desecration, which is an assault on the Nation’s democratic principles.

The forum observed that the action in itself spells a doom and poses imminent danger to the Country’s teething democracy and that it is one of the several attempts aimed at truncating the activities of the opposition government, stating that, it is most unacceptable and warned that the trend be stopped forthwith.

It reminded the All Progressives Congress, APC led federal government to realise that, it is the beneficiary of the liberal democratic ethos, which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had inculcated overtime.

In his words; “The forum condemns in strong terms the violation of the sanctity of the Akwa Ibom Government House by the DSS.
It is against the spirit, ethos, values and fundamental tenets of democratic norms and traditions, more so with a duely elected and sworn-in democratically elected governor of the state.
The forum is worried, alarmed and shocked by such desecration which is an assault on democracy.

It is our opinion that this action is posing imminent danger to our fledgling democracy.  The action is one of APC’s continued attempt to stifle the opposition and this is most unacceptable and that trend must stop henceforth”.

Similarly the forum advised that the DSS should pre-occupy itself with the task of ensuring internal security and desist from harassing members of the opposition party on daily basis, as this would be portraying the APC led Federal Government as one that is derailing into a government of dictatorship.
.
The communique also urged all Human Right Activists, Civil Societies and the International Community to call the APC led Federal Government to order as well as respect the well entrenched democratic traditions, as everyone has a duty to prevent what may slide into dictatorship.
