Governor Sylva Is Ready For 2011 Election Says Aide

Following the recent Publication by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), the Bayelsa  and some  other state, that had re-election

with the same governors retaining their sit will have to stand the January general election, the Bayelsa state government says its is ready for election anytime it is slated to take place.

The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and orientation, Mr. Nathan Egba, in statement today in Yenagoa, told the people of the state that there is nothing about the INEC position.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) also in a statement said the current position by INEC has vindicated the party.

The party in an earlier statement had insisted the tenure of the state Governor Chief Timipre Sylva will expire by 2011, but this was in variance with the thinking of key officers of the state government.

Mr. Egba in a statement had said that their earlier position was based on the certificate of return issued to the governor by the same INEC following the governor victory at the re-run election in 2008 and the recent ruling of the Jos Federal High court on the Ekiti governorship election petition.

His words, “ However we wish to re-assure the people of the state that governor Timipre Sylva is prepared to present himself to the electorate at anytime , knowing fully well that he has done enough to justify a second tenure, considering his achievement in the area of agriculture, power generation, water, education, roads construction health, good governance and security amongst others”.

The commissioner had however noted that INEC’s position is based on the recently amendments of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the national Assembly, a position on which the state government would see proper judicial clarification.
