Bayelsa State Government on Tuesday inaugurated a 7-man committee to assess the level of completion of NDDC projects, as well as collate the number of abandoned ones in the state.

Inaugurating the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Project Verification Committee in Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Seriake Dickson charged the members to visit all communities and review the projects awarded by the commission from inception to date.

A Government House statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Francis Ottah Agbo says, the Governor, who expressed his displeasure over the manner the commission was executing projects in the state, said Bayelsa has the highest number of NDDC abandoned projects in the Niger Delta region.

While condemning the politicization of the activities of the NDDC, he called on the Federal Government to reverse the trend, as the commission was established to complement infrastructural development efforts of the states in the region.

Governor Dickson, who said a copy of the report of the committee would be forwarded to the NDDC as well as the Presidency, called on the Federal Government to constitute and convene the NDDC Governing Council, towards strengthening the already existing structure.

His words: "When I receive the report of the committee, the NDDC board and management will be formally communicated to and a copy of the report will also be sent to the presidency. This is because the days of politicizing NDDC contracts in our region is over. The real reason for the creation of the commission is to fight under-development in the region. The NDDC should no longer be seen as an avenue to sponsor election."

Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Project Verification Committee is Engr Charles Ambaiowei, while Dr. Godson Omubo-Dede, Mr Robinson Etolor, Barr Tare Porri, Comrade Bobolayefa Owoupele and High Chief Abednego Don-Evarada are members.

Responding chairman of the committee, Engr. Charles Ambaiowei expressed serious concern over the extent to which Bayelsa State and its people have been short-changed by various interventionist agencies, including the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, NDBDA, the Directorate of Food, Road and Rural Infrastructure (DIFRRI), the Oil Mineral Areas Development Commission, OMPADEC as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

He assured the governor that, the committee will do its very best to justify the confidence reposed in it, stressing that, everything humanly possible will be done to ensure that, they deliver on their assignment.
