The chances of Governor Seriake Dickson winning the December 5, 2015 governorship poll became brighter at the weekend in Yenagoa as over 2,000 members of the leading opposition party, All Progressives Congress, (APC) led by Senator John Brambaifa and Chief Alex Ekiotene made their way back to the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP).

Despite the sharp drop in revenues, the Bayelsa State Government at the weekend commenced the disbursement of soft loans totaling N100 million to Christian cooperative groups in the state.

This is coming just as the state Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson reassured workers of his commitment to the payment of their salaries, even though only about N4 billion came into the coffers of the state as revenue from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) for this month.

Hon. Dickson, who gave the directive during a meeting with community youth leaders, with the theme: Law and order, peace and security at the Dr. Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, charged them to ensure that their communities are properly organised to give information on piracy, kidnapping and other related crimes.

The Bayelsa State Government has denied claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it was planning to raise fresh loan, which it said was meant to prosecute the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Sylva-Igiri campaign organization, Chief Nathan Egba, had claimed that, the government was about to raise a N12 billion loan for the purpose of the December 5 election which, he said, would throw the state into further debt.

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has called on people occupying positions of public trust in the country to endeavour to do what is right, fair and good in exercising the authority at their disposal.
The Governor, who made this call at an inter-denominational thanksgiving service marking the commencement of the 2015/2016 Legal Year of the state judiciary in Yenagoa on Monday, particularly urged judicial officers to be above-board in the dispensation of justice in the country.
