Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson has pledged the government’s commitment to inject funds for the infrastructural and manpower development of the state-owned Niger Delta University, NDU, to attract reputable lecturers and students to the institution.

Dickson made the pledge during the submission of the interim report on the NDU to him by the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Stephen Odiowei at Government House, Yenagoa.

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Monday said his administration would no longer support the practice of state sponsorship of pilgrims, who want to fulfil the religious obligation of visiting their respective Holy lands.

The Governor, who made this position clear, while inaugurating a 10-member Pilgrims Welfare Board at the Conference Hall of Government House in Yenagoa%2ment House in Yenagoa, explained that, the decision was necessitated by the current economic realities, facing the country and the state, in particular.

The Bayelsa State Government has re-assured workers of its preparedness to pay full salaries at the end of this month, with a view to cushioning the financial hardship caused by the current economic situation facing the country

The Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd), gave the assurance over the weekend at the transparency briefing for the month of September, 2016 at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Thursday charged the State Ministry of Culture and Ijaw National Affairs and the Council For Arts and Culture to develop a cultural calendar for the hosting of monthly cultural shows as well as an annual cultural carnival.

Governor Dickson gave the charge at a state dinner, in honour of the state Council of Arts and Culture for emerging the overall winner at the just concluded 29th National Festival of Arts and Culture, NAFEST in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has inaugurated four Permanent Secretaries, including the principal of a secondary school, with a declaration that it will unfold some strategies in the first quarter of 2017 towards re-organizing the public service for effective service delivery.

According to him, part of the reform process would be the  institution of a reward system.

The 4 new permanent secretaries are, Mr. Egbe Gibson Ockia, Dr. Evelyn Adombazi Tawari, Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah and Mr. Ikobho Anthony Howells.

Efforts to diversify the Bayelsa State economy beyond oil and Gas is on course, as the State Government has established an aqua-culture village, accommodating over 500 fish ponds, situated at Igbogene in the outskirts of the state capital.

Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson on Wednesday reiterated his call on political leaders at all levels to support the judiciary, saying it remains the foundation of the nation’s democracy and stability.

The governor who spoke at a grand reception in Yenagoa, honouring him over the Supreme Court ruling, which validated his election, said the society would disintegrate, if the Judiciary is threatened in the course of performing its statutory role.
