An eight-member Local Government Service Commission has been sworn in, with a charge, to among other duties, sanitize the administration of the third tier of government in the state.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who performed the ceremony in Government House, Yenagoa, stressed the need for the commission to tackle the issue of payroll fraud and instill discipline in the local government system.

The Ad hoc Committee on State and Local Government Administration of the Nigerian Senate has given the government of Bayelsa State thumbs up on the prudent management of resources accruing to it.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Abdullahi Gumel gave the commendation, when he led members of the committee on a courtesy call to Governor Seriake Dickson in Government House, Yenagoa.

The Bayelsa State Government has directed the arrest and prosecution of persons and groups, who engage in the unlawful and the forceful removal of duly recognized chiefs in the State.
Handing down this directive in a statement, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Kemasuode Wodu noted with serious concern reports of arbitrary removal of chiefs that are duly recognized by the State Governor by youth groups and other persons.

The Federal parliamentarian made the call when he visited the site to assess the extent of destruction caused by the incident.
