Chinese investors storm Bayelsa, plan massive investment

A group of Chinese investors have entered into discussion with Governor Henry Seriake Dickson to invest massively in key sectors of the state.

Their discussion centred on multiple job creation and supporting the government to further provide opportunities for other businesses in the state to grow.

‎Leader of the delegation and chairman of Wave Investment, Xue Yuebin‎, made this known, when the group paid a courtesy call on Governor Dickson at the Government House in Yenagoa.

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has announced the commencement of free medical examination once every year for civil servants, political appointees, first class traditional rulers and other senior ‎citizens in the state at the state owned health institutions.

The move, he said is part of his administration's robust plan in the health sector, aimed at ensuring that Bayelsans live a healthier life.

Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd), who announced this during the transparency briefing for the month of April, 2017 in Yenagoa, said the government is yet to receive the second tranche of the Paris club refund.

He noted that, the state government received N14.5 billion in November last year, out of the N21.168 billion due the state for the first tranche of the Paris Club refund.

Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, on Sunday challenged anti-democratic forces, who have been working to truncate democracy to have a rethink, because democracy in Nigeria had come to stay.

According to him, it is no longer fashionable to have a non-democratic society, because democracy remained the best system of government.

Dickson's comments were contained in his goodwill message to all Nigerians on the 2017 Democracy Day, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

Consequently, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT, Bayelsa State Wing) has therefore suspend the ongoing strike action with immediate effect.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Chairman of the State Wing of NUT, Kalaama John Tonpre and Secretary, Johnson Hector, expressed appreciation to the state government for its gesture, as it would go a long way in alleviating their plight.
