The beneficiaries of the Bayelsa State government secondary scholarship programme have been challenged to be worthy ambassadors of the state and Ijaw nation by excelling in their academic pursuits.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who gave the charge when he paid an unscheduled visit to  the Teachers Training Academy, Bulou Orua, where the students are being temporarily accommodated, described the institution as a flagship secondary school.

Adressing the students, he assured that, upon resumption from their mid-term break,  they would start off academic activities at theIjaw National Academy, Kaiama, in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area.

According to Governor Dickson, the school is expected to accommodate 1000 students and his administration will provide the necessary equipment to enable the school function optimally in line with international standards.

While urging the beneficiaries of the government scholarship not to allow any obstacle to truncate their dreams, Governor Dickson charged them to remain focused on their studies to justify the huge investment the government has made in the education sector.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Elder Markson Fefegha said, the Governor Dickson-led administration was nurturing a new crop of leaders in various fields of human endeavour.

He said, the government has so far, invested about N40 billion in the development of educational infrastructure and scholarship schemes, which is a demonstration of the Governor''s passion for education.

Also speaking, principal of the Demonstration Secondary School, Bulou Orua, Mrs. Violet Mama applauded the state government for establishing and equipping the school with requisite  facilities.

She said the school has recorded some  successes, which include,  the emergence of the Deputy Senior Prefect,  Ekede Majesty as the winner of the Essay Writing competition.
