Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson said his administration's decision to provide N3bn to the contractor handling the Ogbia-Nembe road was borne out of his personal love for the Nembe people and the desire to spread development to all parts of the state.

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson said his administration's decision to provide N3bn to the contractor handling the Ogbia-Nembe road was borne out of his personal love for the Nembe people and the desire to spread development to all parts of the state.

Governor Dickson, who stated this while commissioning the Nembe City Stadium at Ogbolomabiri at the weekend, vowed not to be dissuaded by the activities of detractors from implementing the well intentioned plans of the present administration’s restoration agenda.

He said the state government, under his watch decided to intervene in the project, which had suffered setbacks for decades, to fulfill its electioneering promises to the people of Nembe.

The governor noted that, the project, which is being funded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, would not have reached its present level of completion, without the intervention funds from the state government and assured the people of Nembe Kingdom of more dividends of democracy.

His words, " You know people will always talk whatever they like, but don't mind them. If you gave 3 billion naira cash to enable the contractor to finish a road that has been on the drawing board or that has been off and on for over 15 years and people are telling stories, would you join issues with them? Allow them to continue their talk, because you can't stop them from talking.

We are not talkers. We are doers and I can assure you that, no talk and nobody can stop us from doing the work of the people.

"But do me this favour: Don't join them in perpetrating criminality. While we have brought peace and we are providing facilities that will encourage our youths to exercise their energies in a positive direction, we also know what used to be before when some people were creating crisis in their communities.

"Instead of nurturing friendships, people were promoting animosity. And by the grace of God, one of the things that God Almighty has used our government to achieve, not just in Nembe Kingdom, but for the whole of our state, is that we have brought back peace to our communities and state.

Expressing gratitude to the people for their support for his administration and the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Dickson said, the government would soon mobilise the contractors to commence work on a similar stadium at Nembe-Bassambiri.

Governor Dickson, who took the kick-off at the opening match of the maiden Restoration Cup Competition between Rear Okoroma United FC of Ologoama in Nembe Local Government Area and Thunder Bullet FC of Zarama in the Yenagoa Local Government Area at new stadium, explained that, the government was building sporting facilities across the state to provide platforms for youths to develop their innate talents.

While calling on the people of Nembe to continue to complement the efforts of the government in maintaining the prevailing peace in the area, he urged all participating teams not to see the competition as a do or die affair, but as a good opportunity to create and strengthen the bonds of friendship.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd), observed that, the Nembe Kingdom has never had it so good in terms of having its fair share of projects from the government of the day, right from the old Rivers State to the inception of the present administration.

Expressing gratitude to the state government for the completion of the capital intensive stadium, he promised that all well meaning Nembe people would continue to identify with the Dickson-led administration.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Nembe Local Government Council, Mr Eminah Bioghoemi and the Commisioner for Energy, Barr. Francis Ikio, who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Restoration Cup 2015, noted that, the existence of the facility would promote sports development, especially soccer in the area.

They also paid glowing tributes to Governor Dickson, particularly for connecting the area to the state capital by road, pledging that the people of Nembe would do everything within their reach to ensure his victory in the forthcoming governorship election.

The ceremony witnessed the Governor, his Deputy, some members of the State Executive Council and their aides unertaking a one lap jog round the newly commissioned multi-million naira ultra modern stadium, amidst cheers from the teeming spectators.
