Over 50 groups drawn from the 8 Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State converged at the Peace Park in Yenagoa, the state capital to express their solidarity with Governor Seriake Dickson at a welcome reception organized in his honour, upon his return to the State at the end of a brief vacation.
The groups displaying various banners and chanting solidarity songs include, Grassroots Restoration Force, Restoration Ambassadors of Bayelsa, Dickson 2016 Action Group and Bayelsa Grassroots Movement.
Speaking at the event, Governor Dickson said he was overwhelmed by the show of love and support from the people of the state, which he described as spontaneous and gratifying.
Governor Dickson, who thanked Bayelsans for their understanding and for maintaining the peace, in spite of the trying times, called for more support to enable the restoration government, consolidate on the gains it has already recorded.
The Governor urged the people to spread the gospel of restoration to every nook and cranny of the state, especially as electioneering campaigns for the forthcoming Governorship election gather momentum in the state.
He assured the people that the state government would continue to partner with the Federal Government towards achieving greater peace, security and prosperity for the state and the country at large.
Acting chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff also expressed gratitude to Bayelsans for turning out in their numbers to receive Governor Dickson back home.
According to Chief Dokubo-Spiff, the huge crowd is a pointer to the fact that the PDP is the party to beat in the coming election.
Also in their separate speeches, the Chief of Staff Government House, Yenagoa, Rt. Hon. Talford Ongolo and spokesman of the groups, Mr. Prince Isiki said the occasion speaks volumes of the level of acceptance of the present leadership in the state.
