WHAT IT IS

Bayelsa Medicare Scheme is a unique health-care financing programme initiated, nurtured, developed and heavily funded by government to facilitate and maintain improved health-care and well-being of the citizenry.
It is a health-care financing intervention strategy adopted by government to alleviate the traumatic effects of health-care financing faced by individuals and their families. It is a specific health-care reform agenda of Bayelsa State Government.BMS serves its clients as the equivalent of a health insurance scheme eg.the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) of the country.BMS is particularly modified to meet the medi-care needs of its clients. It emphasizes the payment of a prescribed pre-medical fee by members of the participating public. BMS is a model that encourages the practice of particularly collective health –care financing. Treatment of the patient (subscriber/contributor) at the point of need in any complaint facility under BMS is free. BMS is proudly built on some principles of primary health-care such as, the provision, promotion and maintenance of quality, accessible, affordable, practicable, available, and kind health-care to the people. BMS is a clear evidence of democracy. It was established by government in the year 2000. Government is committed to its sustenance in the interest of the health and well-being of the people.

WHO CAN JOIN
Every citizen of Nigeria above 18years that is resident in Bayelsa state is eligible to participate in the scheme. The subscription paid by the parent/adult or primary contributor covers his/her five (5) children or dependants under 18 years old.

HOW TO JOIN
Visit BMS administration office located at Hospital Road, Opp Police Officers Mess,  yenagoa or any of the participating facilities listed below.

Fill and submit the BMS registration form with two (2) passport size photographs.

Pay N200.00 monthly subscription

Obtain a personalized BMS card

Use card to receive treatment free of charge in any BMS facility of choice.
